A.4.1 Test titling procedures. Industrial Test Titling is defined in the following paragraphs.
A.4.1.1 Introduction. Confusion in interpretation of the structure of test document titles has often resulted in unnecessary and costly development of new Navy acceptance test documents. With various organizations preparing test documents, and still others implementing those documents, a need for standardization in development and interpretation of titles has been identified. A lack of definition and standardization has also been recognized by test managers at different functional and managerial levels resulting in local attempts toward standardization. This procedure will promote standardization and consistency in development and assignment of test document titles generated by TDAs, and their subsequent interpretation by test managers and test program implementers. The principal purposes of test document titling guidelines are to:
a. Clarify and determine terminology to be used in the content of test document titles in order to reduce ambiguity, misinterpretation, and redundancy.
b. Provide standardization in the determination of titles to establish consistent understanding between TDAs and test document users.
c. Reduce the length of titles to essential minimums. Test titles may not exceed 120 characters, including spaces.
A.4.1.2 Policy. Requirements for the determination and assignment of test titles shall be applicable to all military, government, and civilian organizations that develop test documents for use in Navy ship acceptance test programs. This applicability extends to test documents developed and/or used at land-based test facilities where test procedure verification is performed in advance of actual ship acceptance testing.
A.4.2 Implementation procedure.
A.4.2.1 Test titling requirements. Requirements of this procedure shall be implemented in order to collect the information necessary for entry into the TEAMIS Repository and, subsequently, for management of test documentation by various responsible organizations.
a. Each newly developed or revised test document shall be titled in accordance with the requirements of this section.
b. Test titles shall be determined together with the test number and shall be finalized at the time of official test number assignment. Once a test title (and its associated test number) have been officially assigned and entered into the TEAMIS Repository, an approved Test Change Proposal (TCP) or Test Problem Report (TPR) shall be
necessary to formally document any subsequent changes.
c. Existing test document titles need not be changed unless the test document is being revised. When a test document is being revised, the title shall be modified as appropriate as part of the revision process.
