MIL-STD-2106A(SH) APPENDIX B
B.3 REQUIREMENTS FOR TEST PROCEDURES
B.3.1 Test procedure content. Test procedures consist of the same COVER SHEET, REVISION RECORD, LIST OF EFFECTIVE PAGES, and GENERAL INFORMATION that are provided as the "test outline". Test procedures shall contain the appropriate steps and information necessary to accomplish the test objectives by the methods described in Test Outline section. Test procedures shall be written to ensure that the procedural steps to be followed are clearly understood by the test conductor. If supplementary information from technical manuals is needed, it should be
provided as an appendix or addendum that is included as part of the test procedure. Test procedures shall be
non-redundant and not require external documentation or supplementary information, with the exception of classified supplements provided as addendums. The body of each test procedure shall consist of SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS, INITIAL CONDITIONS AND SETUP, TESTING STEPS, SHUTDOWN AND SECURING, TEST DATA RECORDING, TEST EQUIPMENT USED, COMMENTS, APPENDICES, and ADDENDUMS (if any). Each of those sections shall begin on a separate page. Exceptions to pagination requirements may be granted for extremely brief Test Procedures of three pages or less. In those cases, the following sections shall begin on a separate page: COVER SHEET, GENERAL INFORMATION, SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS, and TEST DATA RECORDING.
B.3.2 Headers and footers. Each page of the test procedure shall have a header for entry of the Test Title, Test Number, and REV/CHG. In addition, the TEST DATA RECORDING, TEST EQUIPMENT USED, and COMMENTS pages shall have footers at the bottom of each page for entry of the Ship Hull Number, Test Conductor Signature, Government Witness Signature, and Date.
B.3.3 Appendices and addendums.
B.3.3.1 Appendix content. Appendices are used to provide common information applicable to test procedures, and to avoid repetition of the same steps in individual test procedures. Examples are turn-on/turn-off procedures or system/sub-system initialization procedures. Appendices shall be included as part of the Test Procedure if they are referenced by the Test Procedure, after the final COMMENTS page. The appendices will be identified in the table of contents by a letter designator, e.g., Appendix A, Appendix B, etc. Appendix page numbers will be numbered A-1,
A-2, etc. (using the appendices' letter designator for the alphabetic character). The following components (sections) and sequence represent the minimum content for all turn-on/turn-off and initialization appendices and each of the following sections shall begin on a separate page:
a. Appendix cover sheet b. Revision record
c. Table of contents (optional)
d. List of effective pages
e. Procedure steps and instructions
B.3.3.2 Addendum content. Test procedure addendums are supplements that provide the classified portions of a test procedure, such as performance or design specification values, parameters, frequencies, codes, etc. Addendums
will be identified in the table of contents and numbered as described above for appendices. However, the purpose of the addendum is to include classified information. Therefore, addendums must be kept separate from the Test Procedure. An unclassified addendum page should be provided in the Test Procedure that identifies the need for the classified supplement, and provide detailed instructions to obtain the classified addendum. A test procedure addendum shall have
as a minimum the following components:
a. Cover sheet
b. Revision record
c. List of effective pages
d. Classified data, instructions or procedures
B.3.4 Test procedure sample pages. Test procedure sections and data elements are illustrated in figures B-10 through B-19 on the following pages. Information that is not part of the Test Procedure, but is provided for amplifying information, will be enclosed in brackets and in Times New Roman font, or listed in a text box with Times New Roman font to distinguish it from the information that is part of the Test Procedure.
