FORMAT AND CONTENT FOR TEST OUTLINES, TEST PROCEDURES, TEST PROCEDURE APPENDICES, AND TEST PROCEDURE ADDENDUMS
B.1. SCOPE
B.1.1 Scope. This appendix establishes a uniform format for test outlines and test procedures and it describes information to be developed and provided. This appendix is a mandatory part of this standard. The information contained herein is intended for compliance.
B.1.2 Application. This appendix is mandatory for test outline and test procedure preparation (see 5.2.7 and
5.2.9).
B.1.3 Warnings, cautions, and notes. Warnings, cautions, and notes shall be used as adjuncts to the text and are defined as follows:
WARNING: A warning is a statement used to call attention to possible personnel injury or loss of human life if the safety precaution is not observed. Warnings shall be listed immediately preceding the instructions in the test procedure.
CAUTION: A caution is a statement used to call attention to possible equipment damage. Cautions shall be listed immediately preceding the instructions in the test procedure.
NOTE: A note is a description of an unusual procedure or condition which must be brought to the operator's attention. Notes shall also be used to supply needed additional information. These shall not be steps in the test procedure. Notes may precede or follow the test procedure instruction.
B.1.4 Basic requirements. There are several components (sections) required for each test outline and test procedure. Appendices and addendums may be added to provide supplementary information. The primary components of a test procedure are listed as follows:
a. COVER SHEET
b. REVISION RECORD
c. LIST OF EFFECTIVE PAGES
d. TABLE OF CONTENTS (optional)
e. GENERAL INFORMATION
f. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
g. INITIAL CONDITIONS AND SETUP
h. TESTING STEPS
i. SHUTDOWN AND SECURING
j. TEST DATA RECORDING k. TEST EQUIPMENT USED l. COMMENTS
Each of the above sections shall begin on a separate page and contain a header for entry of the Test Title, Test No., and REV/CHG. In addition, the Data Sheet, Test Equipment Serial Numbers And Calibration Dates, and Comment Sheet pages shall have footers at the bottom of each page for entry of the Ship Hull No., Test Conductor Signature, Government Witness Signature, and Date. Detailed requirements for each Test Procedure section are provided on the following pages.
